Managing their own business

The Driefontein Small Farmers’ Cooperative is transparently managed by a democratically elected board of six directors. They are responsible for the management and production of all the Rooibos on this Fairtrade certified farm. Hence, they have a vested interest in making it work for them and their families.

The Cooperative’s statutes determine the functions of its board of directors, including the role of the chairperson, vice-chairperson and financial director. They are also guided by their Code of Conduct, Fairtrade’s sustainability standards and other industry guidelines and ethical standards, including those of Rooibos Ltd and the organic certification agency Ecocert. The directors attend scheduled management meetings and serve on other joint committees of the Rooibos farms.
